Update: We have received an invite from Nokia for the press event held in Delhi on December 16. A source tells us that the company will be unveiling only one smartphone.
Looks like Nokia is busy preparing to launch the Lumia 1520 in India soon, according to rumours on the web. News has it that Nokia is sending out invites for its Delhi-based press event to be held on December 16. The event may see the company unveil the Lumia 1520 and also the Lumia 1320, which were announced at the Nokia World event October. In fact, the Lumia 1520 is already listed on the Nokia India website with a “coming soon” tag. There is a high possibility that the company could announce at device at the upcoming event.
Last week, we asked Vipul Mehrotra, director, Nokia Smart Devices, IMEA about Nokia's strategy for launching the Lumia 1520 in India and if it was going to be overly expensive like the 1020 or if we can expect a more aggressive pricing keeping in mind the competition. Refusing to comment on the aggressive pricing bit, he had said, “A product will be priced comparable to the value proposition it brings to the market.”
He further said that the Lumia 520 has been a huge catalyst for Windows Phone, opening up the ecosystem to a new price point and newer consumers. Buyers reaped benefits of a high-end smartphone at an affordable price point. And that’s the proposition the forthcoming Lumia 1520 will also look at. It’s not a budget handset by any means; it is an uncompromised high-end smartphone. So, we wouldn’t be surprised if the 1520 is priced around or over Rs 50,000.
The Lumia 1520 comes with a nifty set of specifications. Sporting a 6-inch 1080p full HD display, it is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset and 2GB RAM. Some other key highlights are 20-megapixel PureView camera, NFC, Wireless charging and 3,400mAh battery. At the global launch, Nokia had announced it for $749 price, excluding taxes, which is approximately Rs 46,000, so we can expect it to be launched for a slightly higher price in India.
The Lumia 1320 was announced at a lower price of $339 (approximately Rs 20,800, excluding taxes). It features a 6-inch 720p display and is powered 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 chipset. Some other features include 5-megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, 3,400mAh battery.
